Beautiful animal. How long do horses live?

Google says 30-35 years. The ones at camp ranger from 2 years old to 20 years old (I think that is the oldest). We work with all types of horses, too. Appaloosa, Quarter horse, Shetland pony, Grade, Paint, Tennessee Walking horse, Belgian Draft, Pony of America, Shire Draft, Mustang/Arabian/Saddlebred Cross, Welsh Pony, Thorough bred, Connemara Pony, and Haflinger (this would be Yogi, my favorite to ride).

We got the Shire Draft from a circus and use him for vaulting, which is what he already did when he was working. He and the Belgian draft are ginormous! I'm working on getting some pictures of the two of them but they are always working with girls when I see them, and I can't post those, you know.

I never even thought about the lifespan, that is so amazing. :wow:

Horses are such magnificent creatures. It's hard to call them animals because each one has an amazing human like personality. Far from a "dumb beast".

Maybe it's the angle or light but... he looks a little thin maybe?

The way this shot came out was crazy. Twilight is actually very healthy and not near as swayback as this image portrays.

Ah, I was wondering that. :) Sometimes light will do that. I kept looking at the other horse pictures and thinking they all look rather well fed... Then I wondered if he was a rescue and maybe was thinner than he should be.

All the horses and ponies I have in my gallery were either donated or sold to a Girl Scout camp in my area. They are used in the year round equestrian program. During the summer they participate in 6 weeks of camp and the rest of the year they are used for lessons. I swear they have it better than most people.

:D I'm sure they do. I'm looking for a place around here that my wife and I can volunteer at to get some experience taking care of and handling horses. She had riding lessons as a small child but I've never had formal lessons. I just try not to fall off. :)
